Copal (Bereseru microphylla) - Copal is used by the Yaqui and in ancient times by the Azteca and the Mayans as “food for the Gods”. They believe that as the smoke of the Copal would rise, it would carry their prayers to the ears of the Gods. Copal is used in divination, initiations and purification ceremonies. Copal is also used in the Inipi Ceremony (Sweat Lodge) to carry our prayers to Great Spirit. Copal is the Frankincense of the Western Hemisphere.
